Cardinal Walter Kasper and many other ‘revisionist’ prelates and theologians are insisting that the Church start admitting some divorced and civilly remarried Catholics to Communion, even though all previous popes have ruled this out as incompatible with Jesus’ clear teaching that such a relationship is adultery.

Fr. Brian Harrison, O.S., S.T.D., well known as an orthodox theologian, considers this the single most explosive moral and pastoral question confronting the Catholic Church today. A reversal of the Church’s bimillennial doctrine and discipline on this issue would ruin her credibility as the authentic teacher of God’s moral law. However, some revisionists are arguing that even though divorce and remarriage is indeed gravely sinful in itself, some Catholics in that situation might be excused from mortal sin (and so qualify for Holy Communion) because they lack full knowledge of its gravity, or lack full and free consent. In this powerful and clearly argued talk, Fr. Harrison concludes that this compromise “solution” is doctrinally and theologically unacceptable. Listen as he lucidly explains why it has ‘three strikes’ against it.
